A journalist in Delta with Daily Posts, Matthew Omonigho, has described as unbelievable that there are no banks located in Osubi down to Eku despite that these communities are under two reverred kings, HRM (Maj.Gen) Felix Mujakperuo (rtd) and HRM. (Engr.) Mike Omeru, Ukori I, the Orodje of Okpe and Ovie of Agbon Kingdoms respectively.

In a letter sent to Oasis Magazine expressing his disgust, Omonigho added: “It is even more sad that the present Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly lives in Osubi Community and he is aware of this misnormal.”

Adding: “In the whole of Okpe and Agbon Kingdom in Okpe and Ethiope-East Local Government Areas of Delta State, there are no banks. You can only find Amju Unique Microfinance Bank in Eku. The rest is history as our people from the various communities go to Effurun and Agbarho in Uvwie and Ughelli North for banking activities.

“In the process, many of our people have lost their lives as a result of bad roads and armed robbery operations.”

He called on the monarchs to do something urgent to change this narrative, adding that “people are really suffering and dying because of the risks they take daily for banking.”

According to him, “it will not cost them anything to influence banks to their areas. All they need do is to use their positions and contacts, allocate lands free of charge to the banks to commence operations.

“Once this is done, it will attract developments to the various communities as the lives of our people will improve.”

Continuing, the vibrant journalist said the two kingdoms need banks to aggressively improve their economic and commercial activities in the areas and as well create jobs for the teeming unemployed youths,” saying that “this will also reduce the rate of crime in the areas.”
