Edo State governorship election has come and gone with Obaseki emerging the winner.

Already five political parties have petitioned the Edo State Governor before the electoral tribunal set up to look into the conduct of the election.

During the heat of the Edo State Governorship election, Godwin Obaseki was disqualified from the gubernatorial contest in APC because of alleged forged certificates presented, thereby paving the way for Obaseki defecting to the PDP as an alternative platform.

Not satisfied the APC and one of its members Mr Edobor Williams instituted a case against Obaseki and his deputy Philip Shaibu.

Today a Federal High court in Abuja commenced hearing of the suit.

Here is all you need to know about the mention of the case today.

It’s a two separate suit on Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu.

The plaintiff is asking for the disqualification of the candidacy of Godwin Obaseki and Philip Shaibu for certificate forgery and perjury.

The case was slated for accelerated hearing.

The APC lead counsel is led by Chief Akin Okujinmi SAN while the PDP Is led by Ken Mozia.

The court has 180days to hear the case and give its ruling.

The court fixed the 16th, 17th and 18th November for accelerated hearing and for APC to call in their witnesses.

PDP is expected to call in its witnesses on the 25th and 26th of November.

The court has also fixed hearing of the case by the APC against Philip Shaibu, for 30th Nov, and 1st December 2020, while, the defendant has 8th and 9th of December, to call witnesses.

The FEARS and HOPES.
With INEC declaring Governor Obaseki as the duly elected Governor and the APC refusing to challenge his victory at the tribunal, one would have felt the case was dead at arrival.

But there has been a precedence in the case of Bayelsa State where the Deputy Governor under the platform of APC was found wanting in forging his certificates. That singular incidence alone knocked out the APC from entering the promised land despite all their labour and the sacrifices made.

As long as there is precedence then the issue of dismissing the case with the wave of the hand would be suicidal.

The Bayelsa case was a single case of the Deputy Governorship candidate embroiled in the scandal, the case of Edo is more intricate as it is a DOUBLE case.

Both the Governor and his Deputy are enmeshed in the certificate brouhaha.

So as expected there is high apprehension amongst PDP’s fans.

On the other hand, the fans of the APC are upbeat about the unfolding scenario, they hold strongly to the belief that Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is coming back.

With a double BARRELED shot, the proponents of APC feel one of its bullets must surely take down one of the two targets.

We shall keep you guys updated as the cases unfold.
