Jaro Egbo Wants DSIEC Scrapped Or Powers Given To Govs To Appoint LGA Chairmen
By Daniel Dafe, Abrakap
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olorogun Jaro Egbo, has taken a swipe at the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) and the ruling party in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for conniving to deny Deltans the right to vote in a free and fair election to elect chairmen and councillors across the 25 local government areas of the state.
Speaking at the Ughelli DSIEC office where he met no staff of the commission on ground, he opined that it is better the laws of Nigeria be amended to allow the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) conduct council elections across the country, adding that if this is not possible, then governors should be allowed to pick whosever they wish as Chairmen and councillors in their states.
This, he said will save the billions budgeted for such elections that end up as mere appointments.
According to him, electoral materials were not seen anywhere in Ughelli North Local Government today.
Egbo, who was in company of some of his supporters and party’s candidates in today’s elections, said this was a sign that the PDP is an unpopular party in the state and also afraid of the APC.

“If they are not afraid, why are they running away with the voting materials,” he quizzed.
“They would have come out and test their popularity today.
“By tommorow, they will come out and announce names,” he added.
He urged lawmakers in the country to do something fast to amend the laws to tackle this anomaly, stressing that until this is done Nigeria will not be able to achieve greatness.
