NAWOJ, COPASS Condemn Rape, Murder Of 24-Year-Old Lady In Delta

The Delta State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and the Concern for Peace and Societal Survival (COPASS) on Thursday expressed sadness over the rape and gruesome murder of one Joy Ezeamaka, a 24-year old lady in Ubulu-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.

The groups also lamented the reported beheading of another girl in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of the state, Queen Clever by unknown persons suspected to be ritualists.

In a joint statement by the chairperson of NAWOJ in the state, Patricia Gbemudu and executive director of (COPASS), Uche Onwumah, called on the law enforcement agents to leave no stone unturned in unravelling the mystery surrounding both murders.

According to the statement, the feminine leaders who had earlier visited the bereaved families to commiserate with them, called on the state police command to carry out thorough investigation to apprehend perpetrators of the act and mete out appropriate punishments.

They frowned at the increasing rate of rape and other vices in the society, saying that enough is enough to ritual killings and all forms of brutality against the female gender in Delta State.

They urged members of the public to provide relevant information to security agents to enable them apprehend and prosecute the culprits, while urging security agencies in Delta State to deploy all their intelligence and expertise to ensure criminals never see the state as a safe heaven for criminality.

Late Miss Ezeamaka was described as a hard working lady who laboured to put smiles on the face of her poor widowed mother by fetching and selling firewood.

Her remains were reportedly discovered at about 10pm on March 11 in the bush where she was allegedly raped and killed by unknown persons suspected to be ritualists.

Late Miss Clever, on the other hand, was in her business place of roasted plantain on March 8 when she reportedly received a phone call from a supposed customer for a delivery of the local delicacy, but never returned until her body was found headless.
