Anioma People Of Delta Are Same With Igbos In South East —Zik Gbemre
By Daniel Dafe, Abraka
A human rights activist in Delta State, Zik Gbemre, has said that it is right to classify the Anioma people of Delta Delta State as Igbos and same with those in the South Eastern part of Nigeria.
In a statement, Gbemre said that there are historical facts to back up his submission, adding that nothing will change his opinion on the Anioma Igbo speaking people of Delta State, which he stressed are same with the Igbo people from the South-East.
He continued: “They are Igbos. Have they forgotten how Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu and Emmanuel Ifeajuna of the Anioma Igbo young soldiers led the Igbo coup d’etat of January 15, 1966?
“It is an established fact that, that Igbo coup of the January 15, 1966 was led by the Anioma Igbo young soldiers of the defunct Midwest region. They have forgotten all of that historical fact. The January 15, 1966 coup d’etat was a turning point in the political history of this nation.”
He said further: “They should take note that the first military coup d’etat in Nigeria was led by the Anioma Igbo Soldiers namely: Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu, Major Emmanuel Ifeajuna and others. And they all fought on the side of their supposed Biafra Republic then.”
