Augoye Urges Mgt, Staff Of Delta Ministry Of Works To Cooperate With New Commissioner, Applauds Okowa

Immediate past Delta State Commissioner for Works, Chief James Augoye, has urged the management and staff of his former ministry to cooperate and support the Permanent Secretary and whoever is coming after him as Commissioner.

According to Gallant Reporters, Chief Augoye, made the call when staff of the Ministry of Works organized a thank you programme for him in Asaba on Wednesday.

Continuing, he said that they must study his successor, understand and work with him to achieve set goals.

The out gone Commissioner stated that he never believed in the saying that government work should be carried on the shoulder, hence he did his job with passion and commitment as the political head of the Ministry.

According to Chief Augoye, “I took out time to visit all the 503 projects awarded by the Okowa administration since 2015 when I assumed office and even when I knew what would happen at EXCO the following week, I took flying boat to Ogulagha, which is near the Atlantic Ocean to inspect the internal road project.

“Today, I am humbled with the speeches and gifts you have showered on me, am so excited, and I thank God who gave Governor Okowa the vision of appointing me as Commissioner for Works in his administration.

“I also want to use this opportunity to thank the Governor for being a wonderful person to me. He did not only appoint me as Commissioner, but also supported me all through. I am one person that his memo was never rejected at EXCO meetings”, Chief Augoye added.

He also praised Indigenous contractors in the state for improving tremendously on their work, saying that they had given this administration so much milage hence their continuous patronage by the Ministry.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr Fred Edafioghor, enumerated the achievements of the Ministry under Augoye’s watch to include the award and construction of 503 projects, more than 1,300 km of road projects under construction, many of which had been completed; over 700 km of drainage projects under construction, 21 bridge projects under construction, six completed and 15 ongoing.

Engr Edafioghor further stated that the Ministry witnessed tremendous transformation during the tenure of the out gone Commissioner, even as he stated that ‘The Chief James Augoye Annual Lecture’ which was initiated by the Commissioner to build capacity of engineers in the Ministry would be sustained.

He described the out gone Commissioner as a friend and a brother who related with even the lowest cadre of staff in the Ministry, saying that the Ministry would greatly miss him.

All who spoke on the occasion praised the out gone Commissioner who influenced their lives with his style of administration, saying that he was a father, mentor and leader who had the interest of staff at heart.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts by different departments and units in the Ministry, corporate bodies and other individuals who associated with the Commissioner during his tenure in office.
