Delta: Hunter Kills 60-Year-Old Man For Trespassing Territory

-As Rights Activist Condemns Move For Settlement, Wants Prosecution Of Suspect
By Daniel Dafe
A rights activist in Delta State, Comrade Israel Joe, has said that the right thing must be done in a case of murder of one Emmanuel by a hunter, Akporuaro Monday in Orogun community of Delta State.
The deceased was allegedly killed on the 30th of October, 2021.
Joe, in a statement, said that rather than sweep the matter under the carpet, the suspect must be brought to book.
The victim, who he said is about about 60 years of age “was allegedly hacked to death by Mr. Monday who had told his son to tell the man he would kill him if the victim refused to stay off the bush where he sets traps to always catch bush animals.”

In a letter to the DPO in the said community, Joe said: “It’s on record that after the incident, the suspect immediately left the community until his son was arrested. He was forced to return and reported to your station that he murdered the victim and not his son hence his son should be released.”
According to him, “the IPO is alleged to have been convincing the family to accept settlement against the ethics and laws of the Nigerian Police Force. The family of the victim wants nothing but justice”.
He noted that “a case of murder goes beyond the jurisdiction of a division,” adding that “such issues should be transferred to State CIID (Homicide) for further investigations and prosecution.”
“Justice is core should be given credence as far as the matter is concerned,” he said.
