Traders Boycott Traditional Market Days In Abraka, Protest Ethiope East Council Collection Of N1, 000 Levies, Others

Following the protest in Abraka main market on the 30th of December, 2021, traders have resolved to shut down the market on every traditional market day.

The said market day occurs once in four days.

According to sources, this decision was taken by the market women over plans by the council authority to demolish the market, adding that the traders are also unhappy with the N1, 000 levy collected on every traditional market day.

Adding that at first it was One Hundred Naira before it was increased to Two Hundred Naira during the beginning of COVID-19 and now One Thousand Naira that took effect from the Christmas period.

When Oasis Magazine visited the market on Tuesday, being a traditional market day, traders were absent and there was no buying and selling activity going on.

Speaking to one of the traders, she hinted that they will continue to do this until the government listens to them.
