There is palpable tension in Obiaruku, headquarters of Ukwuani Local Government Area in Delta State, as a yet-to-be identified hunter was shot dead on Wedsneday night by suspected herdsmen.

This follows the death of two indigenes of the community that were also murdered recently under same circumstances in the community.

Sources said the corpse of the victim was brought to town this morning by another hunter who was at the scene of the incidence but hid himself after the victim was shot.

A source said: “The hunter was shot on his leg. He had to call his family members that he was wounded and that they should come for his rescue,” saying that “the other hunter who witnessed the whole incidence said that the herdsmen had to shoot the victim dead thinking he was calling security agencies to storm the bush.”

At the time of filing this report, sources said that parents of pupils and students in public and private primary and secondary schools were seen scampering to get them back home safely, adding that all schools have since shut down.

Meanwhile, aggrieved youths took to the streets to attack tanker drivers plying the Obiaruku-Abraka axis of the Agbor-Sapele road.

Youths in the town are also said to be mobilizing to attack a Hausa settlement along the express road, threatening to raze down their houses there and chase them away.

Attempts to speak with the police image maker, DSP Edafe Bright proved abortive at the time of this report.
