One Shot Dead As Rivers Cult War Spreads

The most recent casualty, a man in his twenties by the name of Asari, died at around 7:55 p.m. on the city’s Mile 3 Diobu of the Ekwe/Ikwerre route.
Eyewitnesses claimed that “Asari” was standing next to a group of people when five armed men emerged from a car, opened fire on him, and then sped away.

We learned from sources that the homicide was allegedly the result of a conflict for supremacy between two cult gangs called “D12 and Blackies” that our correspondent visited on Thursday morning.
The cult groups have alliances, one of the eyewitnesses told our correspondent.

“On Tuesday, they took part in a shootout at Elechi Beach in Mile 1 Diobu PortHarcourt that resulted in the deaths of two people. The source claimed that the conflict has now reached Mile 3.
According to PUNCH Metro, The gunfire caused chaos as bystanders, drivers, and commuters scurried to safety while roadside vendors nearby hastily shuttered for the day.
Speaking about the event, Godstime Ihunwo, a vigilante and the chief security officer of Nkpolu Oroworukwo in Mile 3 Diobu, confirmed the victim’s name.
He revealed that before his team and the police arrived on the scene, individuals thought to be members of the victim’s cult group took away the victim’s body.
Ihunwo said, “We heard two gunshots along IKwerre Road/Ekwe Street opposite Bishop Okoye Street at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday and hurried down to the scene.
When we arrived, we discovered a young man named “Asari” lying dead, and we immediately went to the Nkpolu Police Station to file a case.
As the police and I were returning to the scene to examine the body, we learned that two unidentified gunmen had fled with the victim in their Mazda and Jetta.
When called, Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokeswoman for the state police command, said she was aware of the event but had not yet received an official briefing.
