Burkina Faso’s ex-Transport Minister Sentenced To Eleven Years In Prison

A court in Burkina Faso’s capital Ouagadougou on Thursday, August 17 sentenced Vincent Dabilgou, former Transport minister under deposed leader, Roch Christian Kaboré to eleven years in prison for embezzlement of public funds, money laundering and political party financing.

The Court also indicated the former minister will serve seven suspended years and will pay €4.7 million in fine.

The Tribunal also suspended activities of his party, Nouveau Temps pour la Démocratie (NTD).

The court ordered in addition the seizure of his assets to the value of the money embezzled and suspended him from all political activities for five years.

Dabilgou was minister from 2018 to 2022 until the removal of Kabore in 2022 by a junta. Four other people including two who worked in the department of the defendant, were also handed prison sentences ranging from six to eleven years in addition to heavy fines.
