Nigeria Police Burst Gay Wedding Ceremony, Arrest ‘Couple’, Guests In Delta State

Police Operatives from the Ekpan Division in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State has arrested about 100 gay/bisexual suspects for allegedly conducting a same-sex wedding ceremony .

The suspects were arrested at about 9::00pm yesterday August 27, 2023 at the the popular Teebolus Hotel, Refinery Road, Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

The names of the gay couple were given as Daniel Pius ( groom), 22, and Maxwel Ohwonohwo (the bride),20.

It was gathered that the over a hundred guests suspected to be gay\ bisexual were in attendance to celebrate the gay couple in the ceremony when the police team invaded the scene and get them arrested .

Some of the arrested gay/bisexual suspects at the even, include Abel Daniel, 23, Efe Eseghene, 21, Dafe Imonina Goodluck, 27, Ramson, Oghenetega Erhaze, 29 , Ebelechukwu Esatowai 21, Kingsley Aboy, 33, and others who chose to hide their true identities from the police as at this report.

The wedding which was in deed taking place at the popular TeeBolus hotel along Commissioner Road, off busy Refinery Road, Ekpan town in Uvwie, near Warri in Delta State was in fact being graced by so many members of the gay/bisexual community when the police stormed the venue and arrested most of them even though so many were able to escape from the scene without being arrested.

A source who prefers to be anonymous further revealed that the owner of the hotel who gave out the reception hall was on the run as some members of staff of the hotel were also arrested by the police alongside the gay/bisexual suspects.

It was further gathered that while the police were trying to effect the arrest on the suspects, the news filtered into the Uwvie Community and consequently attracted the presence and attention of the angry community youths who invaded the scen in their numbers while fiercely and violently demanding for the handing over of the suspects to them and calling for their heads as well since according to them, same sex marriage and other associated vices are not only unlawful but also a taboo under the Uwvie native law and custom which punishes such conducts with death penalty if caught in the act.

it is worthy of note that the anti-gay Law in Nigeria punishes Homosexual, Gay, Bisexual and other related vices with at least 14 years jail terms upon conviction by the law court in Nigeria.

At the time of this report, though over a hundred suspects were nabbed in the raid, after profiling and preliminary interrogations however, about 40 were released while over 60 persons including the gay couples were held in police custody.

The Oasis Correspondent gathered that immediately after the arrest by the police, some rights activists believed to be members of the gay/bisexual community were seen mounting pressure on the police to free the suspects even though the police authority is insisting on doing justice to the case by making the suspect face the wrath of the anti-gay law and possibly serve as a deterrence to other gay/bisexual oriented individuals.

The police, according to sources, have vowed to prosecute the suspects to serve as a deterrent to others.

As at the time of publishing this report , the seemingly enraged youths of Uvwie community are still threatening brim, stone and fire to resort to jungle justice should the police compromise the investigation and persecution of the arrested gay/bisexual suspects in the police custody.
