Delta Police Intercept Cocaine Hidden In Bulbs, Recover Pump-Action Gun Linked To Murder In Ughelli

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have recorded major breakthroughs in separate operations, intercepting illicit drugs cleverly concealed in household items and recovering a firearm tied to a murder and cultism case.

The operations, carried out on April 13, 2026, were based on intelligence gathering and coordinated enforcement efforts across the state.

In the first operation, officers attached to the Safer Highway Patrol along the Onicha-Ugbo/Ewohimi Road intercepted a Sienna bus traveling toward northern Nigeria. The vehicle, driven by 47-year-old Osuke Stephen, was subjected to a thorough search following credible intelligence.

During the search, the operatives discovered hard drugs hidden inside electric energy-saving bulbs. The recovered substances included 490 grams of suspected cocaine and 4 grams of “loud,” a potent strain of cannabis. Preliminary findings indicate the drugs were being transported to Abuja. Police authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down other suspects connected to the illegal shipment.

In a related development later that day, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team made another breakthrough in Ughelli. Acting on intelligence, they recovered a pump-action gun along with three rounds of live cartridges abandoned in the Ekigbo area.

The weapon is linked to an ongoing investigation into the murder of Alex Adanike, who was killed on January 15, 2026. Police had earlier arrested and charged three suspects in connection with the crime.

Further investigations revealed that a suspect identified as Eddy Onose, currently on the run, had been in possession of the firearm before abandoning it upon noticing he was being tracked. Authorities also linked him to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as “Aro Bagger.”

Police say efforts are intensifying, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, to apprehend the fleeing suspect and recover additional evidence.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing aimed at dismantling criminal networks.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime.
