A 500 level Law student of Western Delta University, Oghara in Delta state, Comrade Gbubemi Ogedegbe, has been elected the new National President of National Association of Itsekiri Students, NAIS.

Fresh Angle reports that Gbubemi Ogedegbe emerged unopposed in an election conducted Saturday January 13 in Warri, Delta state.

This was announced by the NAIS Electoral Committee Chairman for the convention, Comrade Ete – Ogbaro Laju.

The Law student will lead the Itsekiri students’ body for the next one year, alongside members of his executive, just as he promised to attract better welfare for Itsekiri students.

Ogedegbe, spoke of his desire to bridge the gap between Itsekiri students studying in various institutions and artisans of Itsekiri extraction.

Whilst commending the committee that conducted the election for their transparency and delegates for the peaceful atmosphere, the new leader of Itsekiri students, assured of better leadership of Itsekiri students.

Itsekiri students from 25 tertiary Institutions across Nigeria, sent two delegates each for the special convention, which produced a new executive for the Itsekiri students’ association.

300 – level Law Student from Novena University, Amai-Ogume, Eyitemi Jemide emerged the new Vice President of NAIS, after polling 35 votes to defeat her closest contestant, Kpenosen Favour Oritsegbubemi, who garnered 22 votes.

The position of Welfare Officer, went to Omonogho Oritsemeyiwa, who got 28 votes to narrowly defeat Omatsone Eyebira Flora, who polled 27 votes.

The position of Public Relations Officer, PRO, was taken by Etchie Theophilus, with 27 votes, after beating Futughe Great Oritsetimeyin, who garnered 26 votes.

The new President, Secretary – General, Financial Secretary, Treasurer and Director of Social, in the 11 – member NAIS executive, emerged without opposition, while the elected President according to NAIS constitution, will appoint people into the remaining three executive positions.

Other members of the NAIS Electoral Committee, were Comrade Ireyefoju Omagbitse David ; Secretary, the PRO; Kperegbeyi Orighomisan Joy, Harry Madamedon and Oluwaerueyin Bawo.
