Abuja Metro Line To Be Inaugurated In May, Says Nyesom Wike
The long-awaited Abuja Rail Mass Transit Scheme, also known as the metro line, will finally be inaugurated in May this year.
This follows an assurance from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who said the rehabilitation exercise was about 97% complete.
Wike made the announcement during an inspection tour of the ongoing renovation and rehabilitation works on the Abuja metro line, where he rode on the train from the Abuja Metro Station in the Central Business District to the Airport Train Station.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work at the various stations along the route and added that the metro line was very important for the FCT’s economy.
The FCT Minister said, “We are almost 97%. All the works are going on to make sure that May is a reality. This is a dream come true, and we are happy that after all is said and done, the metro line will be in use for Nigerians come May 2024.”
Wike also disclosed that President Bola Tinubu would commission the project to mark his one year in office in May.

He said that the Abuja metro line would be among the projects commissioned by the President, adding that it was essential to the development of the economy, particularly as the FCT is concerned.
The Abuja Rail Mass Transit Scheme has been a long-standing project that has seen delays due to various factors, including funding and technical issues.
However, the project is now set to become a reality, which will provide a more convenient transportation option for commuters in the FCT.
The operational cost for the metro line, especially the training of personnel, was also addressed by the minister, who disclosed that the FCTA had paid its contractual obligations to the contractors. Despite the high cost, he emphasized the importance of safeguarding the interest of the FCT.
