Rights Activist Calls On DTSG, Others To Stop Fuel Station Owners, Attendants From Defrauding Deltans

Comr. Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen has lamented that since the President’s pronouncement that “fuel subsidy is gone,” in his inaugural address on 29 May, living conditions of the people have worsened as prices in PMS has drastically increased, affecting the standards of living, while transportation, commodities are daily on the rise.

According to a Facebook post, the rights activist added that the habit of fuel station owners and their service pump attendants, exploiting and extorting members of the public and residents in the State must stop, just as he called on the state government to act fast.

He continued: “There’s a current trend of tightening the fuel dispenser, reducing the extent to which the products is dispensed to motorists and other users, while the metre counts so fast, hence, members of the public do not really get exactly what they have paid for.

“The management and owners of the fuel station shouldn’t play novice to this antics, as it has become a common trends among fuel stations. We cannot afford to buy PMS at high cost per litre and still not get what we paid for. It’s advanced fraud and fuel station owners should caution their staffs and ensure that they comply to known existing regulations rather than regulating the PMS machine to exploit people. Also,”

Adding: “It has come to the notice of the people that most of the fuel stations indulge in different illegal activities, which has resulted to them selling fuel products mixed with one chemical or the other, so as to make quick profits, at the detriment of people’s vehicle or generator engines. A common one are fuel products that are mixed with condensate, which its rate in supply is increasing.”

Furthermore, he said: “The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, formerly the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), shouldn’t pretend as if they’re not aware of these schemes by pump attendants and their management, coupled with fuel products that are bad, mixed with condensate being circulated all over the State.

He thus called on the State Government and relevant agencies to partner with other sister agencies to investigate, probe and persecute any PMS filling station found wanting.

“It is improper and out of place for a government to tolerate and allow these schemes to continue amidst her economic situation,” he concluded.
