ICAN Installs Faith Enamuotor As 9th Chairman In Abraka

History was made at the weekend in Abraka District, Delta State when the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, held the investiture ceremony of Faith Enamuotor, an indigene of Abraka as the 9th Chairman.

By this, Enamuotor becomes the 2nd female to occupy the said office.

The event took place at Platinum Hotel, Abraka.

The occasion was chaired by the MD/CEO, Gordon Group of Hotels, represented by a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. Blessing Enamuotor.

Speaking during the occasion, President, ICAN, Chief Davidson Alaribe, while delivering a keynote address, said the Abraka District, established as a local chapter of ICAN in Abraka, stands as one of the body’s pillars.

“Known for its robust engagement and dynamic initiatives, it plays a crucial role in the economic fabric of Abraka, promoting the highest standards of accuracy and Integrity. This District has consistently been at the forefront, championing professional development and ensuring our members remain at the cutting edge of the accounting profession,” he said.

Represented by a Member of the ICAN Governing Council, Lucy Okena, he hinted that ICAN has a network of seventy-one District Societies and eight Chapters globally, saying their mission extends beyond local communities.

“Districts are charged with the vital task of grassroots mobilization, reaching out to every member, and enhancing our collective impact on the global stage,” he opined.

He continued: “Beyond our ongoing initiatives, it is crucial for our Districts to actively address specific local challenges that impact our community. The city of Abraka’s economic activities are not sufficiently diversified. Focusing solely on oil or specific sectors can hinder overall growth and development.”

He urged the new leadership under Faith Enamuotor to make this a priority.

“Collaborating with the Delta State Governor and other stakeholders to offer our financial expertise to aid diversification for the economic growth of the city is crucial. This focused effort will reinforce our district’s role in championing economic growth and community welfare, thereby making a significant difference in our people’s lives and upholding our core values of accuracy and integrity,” he said.

“In embracing the future, we urge you to propel all activities with renewed vigor and actively engage in initiatives such as the Catch-them-young program to inspire and nurture the next generation of accounting professionals. This aligns with our global commitment to reversing the declining trend in the accounting profession noted by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and ensuring a steady flow of skilled professionals ready to meet tomorrow’s challenges,” he added.

He assured Abraka District of the Council’s support.

On his part, the Chairman of the occasion blamed the problems Nigeria is facing on professionals that have compromised.

“We fear getting sacked or pushed aside,” he averred.

While congratulating the new Chairman, he said: “Prayers and truthfulness are vital to your success.”

He prayed for the new leaders of ICAN in the area to have the needed wisdom to stand for truth.

Meanwhile, in her acceptance speech, the new Chairman assured that she is committed to upholding the profession’s values and working collaboratively to advance ICAN goals.

Adding: ‘We will enhance professional development, promote ethical standards and contribute to community growth.”

Speaking further, she promised “to build on the foundation laid by her predecessor, fostering excellence, innovation and inclusivity.”

In her words: “I am passionate about mentoring and supporting young accountants, ensuring the continued success of our profession.”

She takes over from Solomon Jikeme, who in his remarks eulogized his successor, saying his success will be judged by Enamuotor’s achievements, just as he advised her to consult with the executive, District Coordinator and others, while praying for her success.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the investiture of Enamuotor who then administered the oath of office on those to serve alongside her as executive members for one year.

Also present at the occasion was the Vice Chancellor of the Delta State University. DELSU, Abraka, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, who was represented by the institution’s Deputy Bursar, Sir Martins Denedo, who also stood in for the Bursar, Mrs. Otimeyin Ekakitie-Omajuwa.

Other dignitaries include the Royal Father of the Day, Ovie of Oruarivie Abraka Kingdom, HRM Akpomeyoma Majoroh, Ojeta II, represented by Chief (Dr.) Emmanuel Enakpoya JP, Special Guest of Honour, Engr. Emmanuel Uwanogho and Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Security Matters, Comrade John Enamuotor.
