Hunger Protest: Egbo Reacts, As Police Shoot Man In Ughelli, Advises Police, Protesters

Chairman, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, Hon. Jaro Egbo has reacted to the shooting of one Elohor Kester who was shot at Otovwodo junction during Day-2 of the EndBadGovernance protest.

Speaking to Oasis Magazine in a phone conversation late Friday, the council boss, said: “I am just getting to know about it now. Let me check where he is tomorrow to pick up his bills and if he is not in the proper place we can take him to somewhere better because I don’t want anybody to lose his life.”

Speaking further, he asked the police to “be more civil and careful,” saying life is very precious.”

“I am already at the lookout for the person shot. I went there when I heard the news but because of the rowdiness I had to leave but I have not been able to trace where he is. By tomorrow morning, I will get him,” he said.

He recalled how he spent four hours with the protesters on Thursday, just as he said he was surprised that they came back today.

In his words, “there was shooting and there was scuffle, hopefully I will look out for him tomorrow but my advice to the police and other security agents is that they should be more civil and more mindful of the sanctity of life and handle them with care.

“For those trying to block roads should stop that. You can protest, but don’t go violent; don’t go and start harassing people.”

He continued: “Their message has been heard. They have made their point and should now allow the government to act on it.

“We are appealing to them to call it off so that other people don’t take advantage of the protest. Today if not for the police they would have burnt down the Tax Office by the stadium. They left there and went to block roads’ hoodlums trying to rob innocent persons. The genuine protesters we know them; no one protests by 7 o’clock in the evening and bullets will be flying over the places. People are now trying to take advantage of the genuine protests,” he opined.
