Mike Nwaukoni Avoids Ogwashi-Uku Amid Fears Of Arrest, Prosecution

Supporters of businessman, Mr. Mike Nwaukoni were left disappointed on October 10, 2024, as he failed to appear at their parallel Ineh Festival event in Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom.

Many had anticipated his arrival to celebrate, but his absence was conspicuous and sparked speculation within the community.

Local sources suggested that Mr. Nwaukoni’s no-show was likely due to concerns over potential arrest.

He currently faces serious charges at the Federal High Court in Asaba, including terrorism, attempted murder, inciting native warfare, and malicious damage.

These charges stem from an alleged attack on the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku and his staff at the Obi’s Palace.

Increased security measures were highly visible in the community, particularly around the Obi’s Palace in Ogbe Nti, Ogwashi-Uku.

Our reporters noted the presence of police officers from outside Delta State, strategically positioned at the Palace, presumably to prevent any recurrence of last year’s violent incidents involving Mr. Nwaukoni and his supporters.

A senior police officer confirmed their mission was to protect the Palace and the Obi, but declined to disclose the source of their deployment, only noting that they were from outside the state.

Army personnel and patrol vehicles were also observed throughout the community, further emphasizing the heightened security.

In Mr. Nwaukoni’s absence, his spokesman, Mr. Lawrence Okafor, led a modest celebration around the businessman’s traditional home.

Unlike in previous years, where large crowds paraded through the streets of Ogwashi-Uku, this year’s event was subdued, with only a small group of supporters taking part.

The usual fanfare and festivities were notably absent, reflecting the growing tension surrounding Mr. Nwaukoni’s legal troubles.
