Crisis Rocks Contractors Association Of NDDC: Board Of Trustees Refutes Suspension Of President, Iyade

Recent developments within the Contractors Association of the Niger Delta Development Commission (CA-NDDC) have sparked significant controversy following the announcement of a purported impeachment of Mr. Sylvester Tonye Iyade, the association’s President.

Recall that aggrieved members of the Executive Committee had alleged gross misconduct, incompetence, non-performance, abuse of office, and failure to convene meetings as grounds for the suspension.

However, members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) have categorically dismissed these claims.

In a statement issued by BoT members, including Mr. Joe Adia, Mrs. Oghogho Emeni, Prince Victor Fakar, Mr. Friday Dollar, and Mrs. Janai Obot, the board declared the suspension as “null, void, and misleading.” They emphasized that the impeachment process lacked adherence to due process and failed to comply with the association’s constitutional framework.

BoT’s statement further elaborated on the procedural deficiencies that plagued the decision. They noted that essential members were not consulted in the decision-making process, no proper notice had been served, and necessary facts were not established in accordance with the CA-NDDC Constitution. As a result, they called for the public and stakeholders—especially those within the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)—to discount the dubious suspension and continue recognizing Mr. Iyade as the legitimate President of the association

The statement reads:

“RE: REFUTAL TO THE PURPORTED SUSPENSION OF MR. SYLVESTER TONYE IYADE

The attention of the Board of Trustees of the Contractors Association of NDDC (CA-NDDC) has been drawn to a letter dated 18th March 2025, which falsely claims the suspension of Mr. Sylvester Tonye lyade, the duly elected President of the Association.

This letter, issued by aggrieved “executive officers,” is not only misleading, but also
procedurally and constitutionally defective.

“The process leading to the so-called vote of no confidence and subsequent suspension of Mr. Sylvester Tonye lyade did not follow the due process as outlined in the Constitution of the Contractors Association of NDDC. No proper notice was served, no facts were established in accordance with the Association’s constitution, and key
founding and board members, including Mr. Joe Adia, were neither consulted nor present at the purported meetings.

“It is on this basis that the Board of Trustees declares the so-called suspension null, void and of no effect. We strongly urge the public, stakeholders, the media, and particularly the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to disregard this unfounded
publication and to continue to recognize Mr. Sylvester Tonye lyade as the legitimate President of CA-NDDC.

a stronger and more inclusive Association.”
