Lagos Seeks Ogun State’s Support On Purple Line Rail Project

The Lagos state government today through the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) met with the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation in Ogun State, Engr. Gbenga Dairo and his team to provide information on the Purple Line rail project especially in areas where the rail project has footholds in Ogun state.

The LAMATA delegation, led by its Technical Adviser for Public Transport Rail, Engr. Olasunkanmi Okusaga, informed the Ogun State officials about the 57-kilometer rail line, highlighting its strategic importance and the fact that 17 stations are planned, with five of these located within Ogun State.

Engr. Okusaga appealed to the Ogun state government for support through the Commissioner for Transport, Engr. Dairo in ensuring the smooth progress of the project, emphasizing the significant benefits it would bring to the indigenes of both Lagos and Ogun states, fostering greater connectivity and economic opportunities.

Responding to the presentation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo warmly welcomed the delegation from LAMATA to Ogun State. He expressed his full support for the Purple Line project, assuring the LAMATA team of his unwavering commitment to complement and support Lagos State’s efforts in this vital infrastructure development.

To facilitate proper planning and potential budgetary considerations on the Ogun State side, Engr Dairo requested that LAMATA share detailed project timelines and comprehensive descriptions of the work involved in the Ogun segments of the rail line.

Key stakeholders from both states attended the productive meeting. Representing Ogun State were Hon. Olufodun Moibi, SSA to the Governor on Transportation; Engr. Akinleye Tosin, Director of Transport Policy & Coordination; head of information, Mr. Bashiru Sakirudeen and Engr. Phillips Olatunde, Director of Public Transport & Commuters Service. On the LAMATA delegation were Mr. Kolawole Ojelabi, Head of Corporate Communication; Engr. Abidemi Atobatele; Arch. Dipo Osobu; and Dr. Babatunde Osho, Managing Director of Global Impact Environmental Consulting.

This collaborative engagement signifies a positive step towards the realization of the Purple Line rail project and its anticipated benefits for the interconnected communities of Lagos and Ogun states.
