You Have Done Well With Your IGR, Oborevwori Praises Delta Polytechnic Rector, Prof. Ufuophu-Biri

Governor of Delta State, Rt.( Hon.) Sheriff Oborevwori on Saturday praised the Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara (DESPO), Prof. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, for judiciously using the institution’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Gov. Oborevwori said this while commissioning projects during the second combined convocation ceremony of the polytechnic.

Speaking during the commissioning, the governor, represented by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, described the ultra-modern administrative building named after the governor as “a testament to what visionary leadership and academic autonomy can achieve.”

“This building is not just bricks and mortar,” Prof. Tonukari averred.

“It is a bold reflection of the MORE Agenda of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, which emphasizes sustainable development through education. We are proud to commission this administrative block in his honour, and we commend the polytechnic for channeling its IGR towards projects of this magnitude.”

Recall that since the establishment of DESPO, it has operated from a temporary administrative building.

According to Prof. Ufuophu-Biri, the administrative building was named the Oborevwori White House “not just for symbolism, but as an expression of gratitude.”

He added: “Your Excellency, your support, autonomy and faith in our leadership have made this possible. This is your house—a beacon of good governance and education-driven progress.”

The administrative office which now stands as the heartbeat of the Polytechnic’s administrative activities was constructed through Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and dedicated to the Governor in appreciation of his unwavering support for the institution’s development.

Other commissioned projects included the Chief James Onanefe Ibori Auditorium built by Ufuophu-Biri’s predecessor, Prof. Emmanuel Apoyi-Ogujor and a water production factory.

According to the rector, the water factory production plant also built through the institution’s IGR will help generate additional means of income for the tertiary institution.

He also announced the invention of a fuel-less generator by the Polytechnic’s engineering team, describing it as “a revolutionary step in green technology and energy innovation in Nigeria.”

Additionally, the governor laid the foundation stone for a 40-ensuite office building to house the School of Applied Science and Technology with a large conference room, just as the rector hinted that he was hopeful that in less than nine months, Gov. Oborevwori will be invited to commission the project.
