By Nelson Agbajor
In a renewed effort to strengthen Nigeria’s tertiary education system, the Board Member of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) representing the South-South geopolitical zone, Mr. Aboh Uduyok, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast commitment to the advancement and welfare of the nation’s education sector.
Mr. Uduyok gave the commendation during his one-day working visit to the Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, where he commissioned several TETFund-sponsored projects. He praised the Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, for his exemplary leadership and dedication to improving educational standards and infrastructure within the institution.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Uduyok explained that the visit was part of TETFund’s ongoing efforts to assess, monitor, and ensure the proper utilization of funds provided to tertiary institutions. He expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of the projects executed at the Polytechnic, describing them as evidence of accountability and responsible stewardship of public resources.
“My take on this visit is to see things for myself because we must move education to the next level. From what we have seen, we are impressed. Professor Ufuophu-Biri has demonstrated integrity in using taxpayers’ money effectively, and we can see the testimony of his stewardship at work,” Uduyok stated. He further appealed to oil and gas companies operating in Delta State to support the institution, noting that the state has contributed immensely to Nigeria’s economic growth and should not be overlooked in educational development.
Responding, the Rector, Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, described the visit and the project commissioning as a significant milestone in the Polytechnic’s journey toward excellence. He noted that the TETFund representative’s inspection validated the institution’s requests for further interventions, adding that Mr. Uduyok’s satisfaction on behalf of President Tinubu was a positive signal for more future support.
The projects commissioned during the visit include a Mini Sports Complex, an ICT Centre, and the School of Business Studies Complex. These facilities, according to the Rector, will enhance academic activities, promote research, and foster a conducive learning environment for both staff and students.
It is noteworthy that TETFund, since its establishment, has continued to play a pivotal role in revitalizing Nigeria’s education sector through interventions in research funding, staff training, infrastructure development, and the provision of teaching and learning materials. Mr. Uduyok’s visit to Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, therefore, underscores the Fund’s continued commitment to accountability, quality assurance, and the transformation of tertiary education across the country.
Present at the commissiong include, the Commissioner for Higher Education Prof. Tonukari and other principal officers of the Polytechnic .
