Leaders Of Kusimi In Warri South West LGA Lament Oil Spillage In Community

The leadership of Kusimi Community in Warri South West local government area of Delta State has appealed to the Federal, State and Warri South West local government area to come to their aid over the crude oil spillage that ruptured last week from the Trans-Forcados Pipeline (TFP) operated by Heritage Energy Operational Services that has caused untold hardship to Kusimi community.

A statement signed by the Kusimi Community Executive Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Kusimi and Secretary, Benjamin Oyakonghan, said the spill which occurred on Friday, February 20th, 2026, has continued unabated for days without attention from Heritage.

The Kusimi community leadership said the alleged crude oil spillage from the linkage also affected their community.

The Kusimi community leaders lamented that the oil spill has affected the aquatic life and ecosystem of the area, thus hindering fishing and farming which are the preoccupation of the people.

The affected Kusimi community Leaders shared their bitter experience on the massive pollution of their environment and that preliminary investigation revealed that the pollution allegedly emanated from oil spillage from the Trans Forcados Pipeline (TFP), a facility under the operational sphere of Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited, somewhere around Odidi 1 in Kusimi Community, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.

They noted that the noxious crude oil from the ruptured oil facility affected their livelihood, stressing that life is in a state of pause as no economic activity is ongoing in the affected communities.

The affected community leaders appealed to the state government through the Ministry of Oil and Gas as well as other relevant authorities to ensure that Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited should carry out Joint Investigation Visit (J.I.V) to ascertain the cause of the spill and its extent do so holistically by involving all the communities who are among the worst hit of this avoidable spill from this facility.

The affected communities leadership equally demanded for provision of relief materials for the adverse effect of the spill in their communities to ameliorate the suffering and hardship been faced by them as a result of the said avoidable spill, discussion of fair and adequate compensation to be paid to the affected’ communities by the identified facility owner for the wanton damages of their river and land.

They also called on NOSTRA, DESOPADEC, NDDC, MENA and other government intervention agencies to quickly come to their aid.
