Nigerian Association Of The Blind Meets NUJ Delta, Seeks Partnership

Nigerian Association of the Blind (NAB) on Thursday held a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, at the NUJ Press Centre, Maryam Babangida Way, Asaba.
In his address, Mr. Nkem Nkemakonam Ofili, the South South coordinator said NAB seeks collaboration with NUJ, Delta State Council.
Ofili stated that the collaboration was being sought pursuant to an international treaty that is the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2006 which Nigeria has signed.
According to him, the treaty has been domesticated in Nigeria under the Nigerian Copyright Act 2022 and the Nigerian Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018.
He stated that the Copyright Act 2022 provided for the blind and other persons living with disabilities in Nigeria to be involved in journalism practice.
He also noted that the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018, provides for protection of disabled persons and prohibits discrimination against disabled Nigerians.
Comrade Churchill Oyovwe, Chairman of the NUJ, Delta State Council, in his response promised that collaboration with NAB would not be denied by the NUJ Delta.

This, he said is so, because, such collaboration is part of the agenda to move the Nigerian society forward.
Oyovwe stated that NUJ and the NAB are partners in progress, just as he promised that the NUJ will continue to work together with NAB to move journalism profession to greater heights.
Dignitaries present at the meeting, included Comrade Churchill Oyovwe, Chairman of the NUJ, Delta State Council, Nkem Nkemakonam Ofili, NAB South South Zonal Coordinator, Azubuike Oba, Delta State NAB Secretary, and Augustine Ubaka, member of the NAB.
