Chevron Nigeria Limited, in partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, is set to hold a one-day workshop aimed at strengthening the professional capacity of journalists in oil and gas reporting.

The workshop, scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2026, will take place at the NUJ Press Centre, Maryam Babangida Way, Asaba, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The training, with the theme, “Enhancing Professional Skills and Ethical Standards in Oil and Gas Journalism,” is designed to deepen journalists’ understanding of the oil and gas industry while promoting accuracy, balance, ethical standards and responsible reporting.

Chairman of the NUJ Delta State Council, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, said the workshop was timely, particularly given the strategic importance of the oil and gas industry to Nigeria’s economy and the need for journalists covering the sector to possess the requisite knowledge and professional skills.

He urged nominated journalists across the state to take advantage of the workshop to broaden their knowledge, sharpen their reporting skills and build stronger professional relationships with stakeholders in the oil and gas sector.

According to him, effective reporting of the sector requires more than the ability to gather and disseminate information, stressing that journalists must understand the technical, economic, environmental and community dimensions of oil and gas operations.

Oyowe said the NUJ Delta State Council remained committed to continuous professional development of its members, noting that capacity building was essential to strengthening journalism and ensuring that the media continued to play its watchdog and public enlightenment roles effectively.

The event is expected to feature training sessions and interactive engagements focusing on key aspects of oil and gas reporting, with emphasis on professional competence, ethical journalism, accuracy, balanced reporting and responsible coverage of the industry.
