DELSU Ahead As FG Unveils Compulsory Entrepreneurship Programme In 14 Varsities

In response to declining traditional employment opportunities and the growing impact of technology across industries, the Federal Government of Nigeria on Friday, March 27, 2026, in Abuja launched the Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Business Incubation Certification (EIBIC) programme.

The initiative is a major reform aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s higher education system toward innovation, enterprise development, and job creation. It will initially be implemented in 14 federal universities, with plans to expand to all federal universities by 2027 and all tertiary institutions by 2028.

However, Delta State University (DELSU), ranked the top state university and 12th overall in Nigeria, is already ahead, as similar programmes are firmly established within its Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CES).

Reacting to the development, the Director of the Centre, Prof. Onos Onoriode Emoyan, commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, for his visionary leadership and unwavering support in strengthening entrepreneurship education within the institution.

Emoyan noted that the university’s proactive approach has not only prepared students for self-reliance but has also positioned DELSU as a model for other institutions adapting to the Federal Government’s new direction.
