DELSU: Faculty Of Education Holds Capacity-Building Workshop For New, Converted Academic Staff, VC Lauds Initiative

Faculty of Education, Delta State University (DELSU) recently organised a one-day capacity building workshop for newly employed/converted academic staff at the 500 Seating Lecture Hall of the Faculty.

Speaking while declaring the workshop opened, Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba commended the initiative of the Faculty in organising the workshop.

Professor Asagba, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Hilary Ijeoma Owamah, also stated that the workshop would equip newly employed or recently converted academic staff with the essential skills and tools needed to succeed in their roles. The Vice Chancellor thereafter declared the workshop opened.

Dean of Faculty of Education, Professor (Mrs) Florence Ngozi Ugoji, remarked in her welcome address that the workshop was timely and strategic, emphasizing that it would help the new staff and converted academic staff to excel in different aspects of their careers in the University. She also commended the Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Professor Samuel Asagba for approving the workshop, stating that the approval was a demonstration of the Vice Chancellor’s commitment to capacity building and institutional excellence. Professor Ugoji urged participants to maximise the workshop and use the knowledge gained from the workshop for their all-round development as staff of the Faculty and the University.

The workshop then moved on to a series of presentations on various topics delivered by the resource persons.

Topics presented and discussed during the capacity building workshop included the following: “Administrative Ethics” by Professor Hilary Ijeoma Owamah (Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic); “Lecturer-Student’ Interactions: Ethical Issues” by Professor Sunny Awhefeada (Dean, Postgraduate School); “Research and Publications in High Impact Journals” by Professor Edirin Jeroh (Director, University Examination Centre); as well as “Qualitative Research” by Professor John Odili (Former Director, Quality Assurance Centre). Other topics presented and discussed were “Teaching in Tertiary Institutions” by Professor Patrick Ajaja; and “Use of Projector and Interactive White Board” by Dr Morrison Jessa.

The capacity building workshop by the Faculty of Education is in line with the vision of the Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, on staff development and excellent service delivery.

Dignitaries present at the workshop included Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Hilary Ijeoma Owamah, the University Registrar, Mrs Rufina Ufiofio represented by Mrs Juliet Unuafe, the University Bursar, Mrs Otimeyin Ekakitie-Omajuwa represented by Mr Peter Emoghene, the University Librarian, Dr Josephine Eruterio Onohwakpor represented by Dr Joseph Chukwusa, Dean of Faculty of Education, Professor (Mrs) Florence Ngozi Ugoji, Associate Dean of Faculty of Education, Professor Eric Oghonu, Faculty Officer of the Faculty of Education, Mr Frank Ineneji, Heads of Departments in the Faculty, staff, and others.
