DELSU Expands Global Footprint, As VC Signs Strategic Partnership With Carleton University

ABRAKA, NIGERIA — In a landmark event signaling a new era of global academic integration, the Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Prof. Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, has officially formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada.

The signing ceremony, held on Wednesday at the University’s administrative headquarters in Abraka, marks a crowning achievement in the Vice-Chancellor’s ongoing internationalization drive.

This partnership links one of Nigeria’s leading state universities with Canada’s “Capital University,” creating a high-impact corridor for research, cultural exchange, and institutional development.

Since assuming office, Prof. Asagba has prioritized the elevation of DELSU’s profile on the global stage. The said signing is a concrete manifestation of that vision. By partnering with a top-tier North American institution like Carleton, DELSU is positioning its faculty and students to compete and collaborate at the highest international levels.

The African Indigenous Knowledge Research Network (AIKRN)

A standout feature of this collaboration is the formal incorporation of the African Indigenous Knowledge Research Network project in the MoU. This specialized initiative aims to bridge the gap between traditional wisdom and modern economic solutions. Key focus areas include:

• Youth Entrepreneurship: Developing training modules that empower young graduates to innovate within their local contexts using global business standards.

The MOU outlines a comprehensive framework for mutual growth, managed through the Centre for International Collaboration and Linkages (CICL), led by Prof. Jonathan Tsetimi.

The agreement includes:

• Faculty and Student Mobility: Facilitating exchange programs that allow DELSU scholars to conduct research in Ottawa while welcoming Canadian counterparts to Abraka.

The ceremony was attended by some members of the University Senate, including Professor Vincent Efebe and Dr Prosper Irogbo, who lauded the Vice-Chancellor for his relentless pursuit of excellence.
