The Delta State Police Command has intensified its operational activities with a coordinated show of force and clearance operation targeted at identified criminal hideouts within Asaba and its environs.
“This is part of efforts put in place to ensure that crime prevention strategy is maintained and to make the state unhabitable for criminals,” SP Edafe Bright, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Police Command, Asaba, added in a statement on Friday.
He said: “Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State CP Yemi Oyeniyi psc, acipm, mnips, teams of operatives drawn from the Department of Operations (DOPS), Buffalo Squad, Crack Squad, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Special Anti Kidnapping and Cyber-crime squad, and Operation Delta Shield led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, on 8th April 2026, embarked on aggressive patrols and clearance operations around the Okpanam bush axis and other adjoining areas within the Asaba metropolis.
”The operation focused on combing suspected criminal hideouts, including shanties and makeshift camps believed to serve as safe havens for criminal elements, including suspected IPOB/ESN actors. The exercise also involved confidence-building patrols aimed at reassuring law-abiding residents, farmers, and business owners of their safety and the Command’s staunch commitment to the protection of lives and property.”
