Soludo Appoints Prof. Peter Onwualu Pro-Chancellor Of COOU, Names New Governing Council Members

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has approved the appointment of Professor Peter Azikiwe Onwualu as the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam.

Professor Onwualu, a renowned Professor of Agricultural Engineering and current Vice-Chancellor of the African University of Science and Technology, Abuja, is also a former Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council.

According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening the leadership and governance of the state-owned university.

Described as a distinguished engineer and award-winning administrator, Onwualu has made significant contributions to the development of Agricultural and Materials Engineering in Nigeria. He has served in several strategic positions, including Visiting Professor at the National Universities Commission and Co-Centre Leader of the World Bank-funded Pan African Materials Institute.

He has authored over 200 publications, holds 10 patents, received awards from more than 70 organisations, and is a fellow of 12 scientific and professional bodies.

Governor Soludo also approved the appointment of other members of the Governing Council. They include Chief Christopher Ndubuisi, HRH Igwe Chidiume Oranu, Professor Josephat O. Ogbuagu, and retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Sir Chris Ezike.

The statement noted that the newly appointed council members are expected to bring their diverse wealth of experience and expertise to bear in advancing the vision, governance, and academic excellence of the institution.

Governor Soludo, as Visitor to the university, expressed confidence that the new Governing Council would help reposition the institution for greater impact and improved standards in higher education.
