Tonukari Commends Ogedegbe On Projects, Empowerment In Ethiope East

The Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, has hailed the developmental strides of the Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Area, Augustine Ogedegbe, following the commissioning of key projects and the rollout of empowerment initiatives in the council.

Prof Tonukari gave the commendation as the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, commissioned several landmark projects executed by the council administration and witnessed the distribution of empowerment items to youths, women and vulnerable groups.

The Commissioner described the projects and empowerment drive as clear evidence of purposeful leadership at the grassroots, noting that they align with the state government’s broader vision of inclusive development and economic growth.

Among the projects commissioned were a renovated and fully furnished administrative block, a newly constructed ultra-modern staff main block and a generator house, all aimed at improving service delivery and enhancing operational efficiency within the council.

Prof Tonukari particularly commended the empowerment initiative, which saw the distribution of items to various groups, including persons with disabilities, to enable them engage in economic activities and become self-reliant.

He noted that such interventions are critical in tackling unemployment and poverty at the grassroots, while also fostering sustainable livelihoods among beneficiaries.

In his remarks, Governor Oborevwori, who was represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting local government councils in driving development closer to the people, stressing that collaboration between the state and local governments remains key to achieving rapid progress.

“My administration will continue to support local government councils in their efforts to bring development closer to the people because together, we can build our communities, empower our citizens and create a more prosperous Delta State,” he said.

The governor commended the leadership of Ethiope East Local Government for aligning with the state’s MORE Agenda, noting that the projects and empowerment programmes reflect a people-oriented approach to governance.

He also encouraged beneficiaries of the empowerment scheme to make judicious use of the items provided to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute positively to their communities.

Earlier, the council chairman, Hon Ogedegbe, expressed appreciation to the state government for its support, stating that his administration remains committed to good governance and the transformation of the local government area.

He said the projects were designed to create a conducive working environment and improve productivity, while the empowerment initiatives were targeted at enhancing the economic well-being of residents.

The event attracted top government officials, including the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Arthur Akpowowo, State Director of Protocol, Chief Sunday Onoriode, as well as other dignitaries, marking a significant milestone in the development efforts of Ethiope East Local Government Area.
