Shock As Gunmen Kill FUPRE Lecturer In Delta Community

Residents of Ugbomro Community in Delta State have been thrown into mourning following the killing of a lecturer at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Mr. Emmanuel Meeting, by suspected gunmen.

According to sources, the lecturer was killed at his residence in Ugbomro at about midnight on Monday, May 25, when unidentified gunmen reportedly attacked him under circumstances that are still being investigated.

Speaking with reporters, a brother of the deceased said he received a phone call between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, informing him of the incident. He said he immediately rushed to the scene, only to discover that his brother had been killed.

The tragic incident has sparked grief and concern within the Ugbomro community and among members of the academic community, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the killing.

As of the time of filing this report, the remains of Mr. Meeting had been deposited in a mortuary, while police authorities were said to be investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and working to identify those responsible.

The family of the deceased has appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice.

Residents have also urged law enforcement agencies to strengthen security in the area to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

Police authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the matter as of the time of this report.
