BREAKING: INEC Fixes June 16–25 For Party Primaries In Restored Constituencies Across Delta, Three Other States
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed June 16 to 25, 2026, for political parties to conduct primaries in recently restored state constituencies in Delta, Benue, Jigawa and Kogi states ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The commission disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
According to INEC, the restoration of the constituencies followed court judgments directing the reinstatement of previously suppressed constituencies and was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and the Electoral Act, 2026.
In Delta State, the restored constituencies are Aniocha North II, Ika North East II, Sapele II, Ethiope West II, Warri South West II and Warri North II.
The commission also restored Nyamatsor, Ukum Afia, Konshisha III (Shangev-Tiev), Makurdi III (South East) and Gboko III State Constituencies in Benue State; Aujara State Constituency in Jigawa State; and Adavi East, Eika, Ajaokuta North, Bassa-Komu, Dekina Town and District, Ijumu II, Kabba-Bunu II, Koton Karfe II, Igalaogwa and Ogugu State Constituencies in Kogi State.

INEC said the special primary election window is intended to facilitate the nomination of candidates by political parties for the restored constituencies ahead of the 2027 elections.
The commission, however, noted that all other timelines and activities contained in the revised timetable and schedule of activities already released for the 2027 General Election remain applicable to the affected constituencies.
It further directed political parties to submit notices of their primaries to the commission before the scheduled dates, citing the peculiar nature of the arrangement.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring credible, inclusive and transparent electoral processes across the country.
