Delta Police Arrest Two Armed Robbery Suspects, Intercept Major Drug Consignment

ASABA, Nigeria — The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant operational successes in its sustained crackdown on violent crime and drug trafficking across the state.

The development was contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, and released from Asaba on Tuesday, June 14, 2026.

The operations resulted in the arrest of two suspected armed robbers and the interception of a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs in separate intelligence-led actions across the state.

Armed Robbery Suspects Arrested in Ughelli Joint Operation

At about 4:30 PM, operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS), Ughelli, in collaboration with the Ughelli Vigilante Group, stormed the Okorodafe area following credible intelligence on suspected criminal activity.

During the operation, the team arrested 29-year-old Moses Francis, who is suspected to be involved in a series of armed robbery incidents within Ughelli and adjoining communities.

According to the statement, the suspect reportedly confessed during preliminary interrogation to participating in several robbery operations, including a recent attack along Aro Street, Ughelli, in April 2026.

“During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in several robbery operations, including a robbery incident that occurred along Aro Street, Ughelli, in April 2026,” SP Bright Edafe stated.

Following his confession, Francis led operatives to a hideout where his alleged accomplice, 26-year-old Cosmos Erueseke, was arrested at about 5:40 PM the same day.

Both suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover firearms used in their operations.

Suspected Drug Consignment Recovered After Driver Flees

In a separate operation earlier that same day, at about 4:00 AM, operatives on stop-and-search duty along the Ozoro/Oleh Expressway intercepted a Toyota Sienna vehicle with registration number FST 242 YK.

However, during routine questioning, the driver abruptly abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush, escaping arrest despite a swift response by the operatives.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs, including Codeine, Tramadol, and other suspected controlled pharmaceutical substances.

The vehicle and exhibits have been taken into custody, while a manhunt has been launched to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspect.

Police Reaffirm Commitment to Security

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism, vigilance, and swift response.
