DESOPADEC Completes Akarai Obodo NYSC Lodge, Olisa Reaffirms Commitment To Community Development

The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, has completed the construction of a modern National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Corpers’ Lodge at Akarai Obodo in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, marking another milestone in the Commission’s drive to improve the welfare of Corps members serving in oil-producing communities across Delta State.
The newly completed facility forms part of DESOPADEC’s broader commitment to providing quality infrastructure that enhances the living conditions of Corps members while supporting sustainable community development within its mandate areas.
Speaking during an inspection of the project, the Member representing Ndokwa ethnic nationality on the Governing Board of DESOPADEC, Dr. Charles Olisa, KSM, JP, expressed satisfaction with the successful delivery of the lodge and commended the contractor for adhering strictly to the Commission’s specifications, contractual terms, and project timeline and for delivering a high-quality facility.
Dr. Olisa reaffirmed the Governing Board’s unwavering commitment to executing projects that directly improve the lives of residents across DESOPADEC’s mandate areas, noting that under the leadership of the Board Chairman, Olorogun Barr. John Nani, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Chief Festus Ochonogor, the Commission remains focused on delivering people-oriented projects that respond to the genuine needs of host communities.
“This NYSC Corpers’ Lodge at Akarai Obodo is the outcome of continuous engagement with community leaders and other critical stakeholders. It reflects the Board’s commitment to listening to the people and delivering infrastructure that addresses their most pressing needs,” Dr. Olisa stated.
He further explained that the project is in line with the M.O.R.E Agenda of the Delta State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, which places strong emphasis on infrastructure development, human capital advancement, and inclusive growth across the State.
The DESOPADEC Board Member also disclosed that several other projects within Ndokwa East Local Government Area are nearing completion and these include the construction of an Assembly Hall at Oduga Secondary School, Ushie; the fencing of Aboh Grammar School, Aboh and an ultra-modern Civic Centre at Agwetiti, among other strategic interventions.

He assured residents that additional projects would soon be delivered across communities within the Ndokwa ethnic nationality, particularly in Ndokwa East LGA, as the Commission continues to expand its developmental footprint and improve living standards throughout its mandate areas.
The completion of the NYSC Corpers’ Lodge is expected to significantly enhance accommodation and welfare for Corps members posted to Akarai Obodo and surrounding communities while strengthening youth service delivery and contributing to the socio-economic development of the area.
