Monkeypox: Oruarivie-Abraka Kingdom Opts For Regular Health Outlets In Place Of Military Immunization For Children

There was commotion on Friday in schools in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State over fear of monkey pox injection by state authorities, as parents and guardians rushed to schools to pick their wards amidst rumours that a military mission was forcing pupils to accept inoculation that could kill them.

Reacting to the development, the Ovie of Oruarivie Abraka, HRM Akpomeyoma Majoroh Ojeta II, speaking through the community’s President-General, Olorogun Tedwins Emudainohwo, during a telephone conversation with Oasis Magazine, said that the community will forthwith make do with regular health services, such as health centers, dispensaries and general hospitals in carrying out the said task.

The monarch called on the military to put on hold whatsoever immunization services for children that they were carrying out in the community.

He added: “With the level of apprehension nationwide to the services offered by military personnel, Oruarivie Abraka Kingdom has rejected such services because it is causing panic and chaos. Mothers and guardians were seen today with just their wrappers, as some had just braziers on, banging on gates to allow them take their children from schools,” saying that some even forced their way into school premises to get their children/wards in the community.
