2019: Why Delta Central Should Support Okowa— Ofa
A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr Henry Ofa has said that to ensure the easy emergence of a Governor of Urhobo extraction in 2023, the people of the Central Senatorial District of Delta State should support the re-election bid of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in 2019.
Ofa, a member of the newly constituted Delta State Post Primary Education Board, made the statement at Amukpe, during the inauguration of the Randy Temishe Foundation, an education support and sports development initiative being floated by a Vigilante Commandant and youth Leader in Okpe Local Government Area, Mr. Randy Temishe.
According to him, “the political system of the state is so well organized that succession to the Osadebe House ought to be seamless and without much rancour.”
He said: “We are aware of the commendable efforts of the Okowa’s administration to initiate many people oriented project across the three senatorial districts of the state.
“On the basis of fulfilling campaign promises, there is no doubt that Governor Okowa deserves a second term and I am very sure that the good people of Delta State will give him the necessary support to remain at the helms of affairs of the state beyond 2019.
“Nevertheless, I wish to remind the people of Delta Central that the political arrangement in our state is quite unique; we must support the second term bid of Governor Okowa because it is the quickest way for any of our qualified leaders to emerge as Governor by 2023.”
Ofa also called on the people of Delta Central to register and obtain their voter’s card ahead of the 2019 elections, noting that it is the only tool they have to effect changes in the political landscape.
“Your voter’s cards are very important; you may not be a politician but the actions and inactions of politicians have effects on your life, therefore you must secure your voter’s card for you to be able to determine who gets to the seat of power,” he said.
The PDP scribe commended Temishe for opting for an education and sports support foundation, noting that the initiative will create a platform for the discovery and grooming of young intellectuals and sports stars.
“This foundation deserves a honest commendation. With its special focus on sports and education, we will surely discover new talents. Quality education is the bedrock of any society and no government can fund its education sector alone. This is why it is necessary to have foundations like this. I urge everyone to key into this idea and support the initiative in any way they can,” he added.
