Ukah Enjoins Mathematical Association Of Teachers To Enhance Their Teaching Methods

Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Chief Patrick Ukah, has enjoined teachers and stakeholders of Mathematics in the state to show more commitment and devise measures to arouse the interest of students in the subject.
Chief Ukah gave the advice in Asaba when the Mathematical Association of Nigeria, Delta State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Dr. C. E Emeronye, paid him a courtesy visit.
He said that the association should strive to remove the phobia of students towards Mathematics and urged them to always organise training programmes for teachers of the subject in order for them to be effectively abreast with modern trends in the subject.
Chief Ukah particularly called on the association to focus more on the foundational stage such as primaries one to three and students who were preparing for external examinations.
The Basic and Secondary Education Commissioner recalled that the last 1000 teachers employed by the Okowa-led administration were largely on areas of the subject needs of the public secondary schools in the state.
Earlier, Dr. Emeronye who informed the commissioner that the visit was to introduce the new executives of the body to him and to intimate him with the activities of the association, said that the association was planning a workshop to train teachers of mathematics in the state.
Dr. Emeronye noted that the content of the training would dwell on modem ways of solving mathematics, adding that a similar programme would be organised for students with a view to encouraging them to develop interest in Mathematics and eradicate their fear of the subject.
He solicited the support of the ministry, saying that the association would continue to improve mathematics in the state.
