Salary Reduction: Okeme Appeals To Affected Workers To Be Patient

Says Govt. Will Revert To Minimum Wage When Economy Improves

The Special Adviser to Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on SERVICOM and Labour Matters, Comrade Mike Okeme, has appealled to Delta State workforce, especially government workers on grade level 7 to 17 whose minimum wage would be temporarily suspended as a result of the dwindling revenue generation occasioned by the effects of the ravaging coronavirus pandemic to be patient.

Comrade Okeme who made the appeal in Asaba during a press briefing with journalists, said that Governor Okowa had always been workers friendly and had been treating matters concerning the welfare of the state workforce seriously.

While affirming the support of the various labour unions including the office of SERVICOM and Labour matters to on the decision, Comrade Okeme stated that as soon as the economy improves, the temporary suspension of the minimum wage of the affected categories would be reversed in tandem with the agreement between labour and the state government that it should be suspended for a period of six months.

Comrade Okeme noted that there was an agreement for temporary review of the workers salary with effect from July, 2020, adding that during the early stage of the Okowa-led administration, government at a time found it difficult to meet up with payment of workers wages due to the large number of worke force in the state.
