UPU: 2020 Was A Hectic Year, Urges Urhobo Nation To Forge Ahead
…Preaches Peace, Unity Ahead Of 2023 Guber Polls
By Daniel Dafe
The first Deputy President General, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Captain Tony Onoharigho, has described 2020 as a very hectic year, urging Urhobo indigenes to forge ahead despite the present challenges.
Onoharigho who spoke exclusively to Oasis Magazine (OM), disclosed that for almost a year, he has acted in the capacity of President since Olorogun Moses Taiga who has been indisposed for almost a year, but said that he has continued to moderate the activities of the union from where Taiga is overseas.
He said: “There is no vacancy in UPU. Many people have been crying wanting to see Taiga. He is overseas, but will return back anytime from now. UPU could not hold any meeting physically and Urhobo Day in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the world. But, I am optimistic that next year will be different.”
He continued: “2020 carried a lot of trouble. First it was COVID-19 and then EndSARS.”
He commended all that worked for the progress of Urhobo Nation in 2020 and particularly praised the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for restoring Abraka Constituency II.
Also, he commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for completing the landscaping of Urhobo House in Uvwiamughe.
Adding: “DESPOADEC also has completed the interlocking tiles of the premises on the instruction of the governor.”
He wished all Urhobo sons and daughters in Nigeria and overseas a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Speaking about Urhobo’s unity, the outspoken leader opined that he is now determined to pursue Urhobo cause and do away with every involvement in partisan politics.
“2023 is around the corner and if we do not put our house in order, many things might go wrong. So, its time to see to it that UPU fervently pursues Urhobo cause. We must not allow anyone drag UPU into an APC, PDP battle and only remain committed to the interest of Urhobo interest.”
