Sapele: Private School Owners Celebrate 2021 Children’s Day In Style

Private school owners in Sapele under the aegis of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Sapele Chapter, on Thursday, May 27, 2021, held the maiden edition of Children’s Day celebration to mark this year’s event.


Themed: ‘Recover, Revitalize Education for the COVID-19 Generation,’ the event held at Okotie-Eboh Grammar School, Sapele, Delta State, and had over 50 schools participating in activities such as match past, choreography, debate, cultural dance, recitation and others.

Speaking at the event, the State Chairman, Deacon Monday Ifoghere, said “NAPPS National Leadership saw the need for Private Schools to deliberately come out to mark the day with her millions of children (learners) all over the country in a grand style.”

According to him, the event will continue to hold annually, adding that before now, most children just hear of the day as a non-school day and only a few are aware of the day when they are per chance invited for march past by the Local Government Area offices.”

“But from now on, we want every learner in our schools to look forward to this day and celebrate it. We that nurture these children for the future have resolved to champion this annual event,” he said.

He called on all NAPPS children to concentrate on their studies more than ever before.

Continuing, he urged the pupils and students to “avoid bad companies, cultism, quick money syndrome and examination malpractices,” as he tasked them on embracing the electronic learning system.

Earlier, the National President, Chief Yomi Otubela, in his address, said “it behoves the education managers from both the private and public sector to unite to reverse the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children by ensuring unhindered learning activities while also maintaining safety in schools.”

Represented by Rev. (Dr) Felix Mikpoyibo, pioneer Chairman, NAPPS, Delta, he said that “this calls for policymakers, educational administrators etc to fashion out ways to minimise the impact of the COVID- 19 pandemic while ensuring that learning activities are achieved seamlessly and without interruption.”

Adding: “It becomes imperative for the school management to imbibe learning strategies that increase the degree of attention to safety, curiosity, interest, optimism, and passion that learners show when they are learning or being taught.”

On his part, the Chairman of the Chapter, Rev. Winner Okiki, said children are the future of many generations, so attention musy be paid to their spiritual, emotional, educational and social well-being.
Okiki urged parents and guardians to pay attention to the education of their children and wards, saying that the COVID-19 lockdown made many students embrace vices such as cultism and internet fraud since they lost interest in education.

Results announced by the judges saw Bethel Baptist School, Sapele, Prince Primary School, Sapele and His Majesty International Schools, Sapele, emerging tops.

For the secondary school category, Prince International Schools, Saviour Schools, Sapele and Holy Child Schools topped the contest.

Results for the cultural dance had Prince International School, Sapele, Obule Integrated Schools, Sapele and Prince Royal Schools, Sapele clinching the top positions.

Other dignitaries present at the ceremony include the Chairman, Sapele Local Government Area, Chief Eugene Inoaghan (represented), Chief Inspector of Education, Sapele, Mrs Clara Morita represented by the Ministry’s Sport’s Officer, Chief Ovigue Egbonoje.

Other agencies represented were tge police, FRSC, and the health officials.
