Two Children Abandoned At The Gate Of Delta Information Ministry In Asaba
By Austin Akaeze
Two children, aged 9 and 11 have been abandoned at the gate of the Delta State Ministry of Information in Asaba, the state capital.
The children, who gave their names as Master Miracle Solomon David and Miss Blessing Solomon David, explained that they lived with their parents at Aba in Abia State.
According to them, their mother, who they gave her name as Deborah, had no source of income, while their father who they gave his name as Emmanuel, was a carpenter.
They said that their mother boarded a bus with them from Aba and on getting to Asaba, she took them to a market and kept them somewhere in the guise of going into the market to buy clothes for them, but had not come back ever since.
They added that with nowhere to go, they were forced to sleep in the market, adding that the next day, being Friday, September 3, 2021, a good Nigerian found, picked and dropped them at the ministry’s gate without disclosing his identity.
The officials of the Ministry of Information had promptly contacted both the ministries of Humanitarian Affairs and that of Woman Affairs and briefed them on the development for necessary actions.
The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Bridget Anyafulu, had also swung into action immediately and stormed the information ministry in person, accompanied by some members of her staff and personally interrogated the children to get first hand information about the strange situation.
Thereafter, she said that she would contact the Ministry of Women Affairs as well as the Police in the state and ordered for food for the children.
