By Daniel Dafe
Due to the rising threats to the safety of lives and property in Orhoakpor Community, the Ethiope East Local Government Authority in Delta State, under the leadership of Hon (Pharm) Victor Ofobrukueta, has announced a curfew in the said community from 7 p.m to 7 a.m daily with immediate effect.
Recall that Anthony Oreh, the immediate past Vice President of the community was gruesomely murdered during the early hours of Thursday, September 23, 2021.
But, a source said he was killed when he (Oreh) tried to broker peace during an alleged cult attack on the vigilante chairman in the community who he (Oreh) handed over to after his tenure as CHairman.
A trending video online of Oreh before he died showed him bleeding profusely as a result of a serious head injury and later rushed by a symphatiser on a motorcycle to seek medical attention.
Also, our source said that the murdered former Vice President-General was also an aspirant for the position of President General in an election he lost recently.
Asked what necessitated a curfew, the source said:”There was so much tension in the community yesterday. Remember that late Mrs. Mary Iyasere is also from the same community.”
A statement signed by Comr. John Jephthah, P.A, New Media and ICT to the Executive Chairman, on Thursday, though silent on what led to the gruesome murder of the deceased, called on all police formation situated in proximity to Orhoakpor community to enforce the curfew.
According to the statement, residents of Orhoakpor Community were urged to comply to enable security operatives maintain law and order.
Adding: “Vehicular movement, inclusive of motorcycles, bicycles are also restricted in the community during these hours.”
