APC Accuses Delta Govt Of Favouritism In Employment Into State Varsities, Calls For Merit, Transparency
By Daniel Dafe
When the child of “nobody” cannot get anything from the government of his State because he knows nobody in high places, his negative actions and inactions towards the Government should be blamed on the promoters of nepotism, favouritism, corruption, and other vices in the corridors of power.
This was contained in a statement on Saturday by the All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta, signed by Publicity Secretary (Caretaker), APC Delta State, Sylvester Imonina, Esq., just as the party accused Delta Government of favouritism in employment into state varsities and called for merit and transparency.
Delta APC alleged that what was going on in the three newly created Universities in the State as regards employment of staff after the managements of the Universities put up advertorials for different vacant positions in the schools, urging qualified Deltans to apply was an abracadabra.
“As leopard that does not change its skin, some characters who are averse to repentance in the People’s Democratic Party led-Government of Delta State have hijacked the employment process that should ordinarily be devoid of any form of manipulation, for selfish reasons!
“It is shocking that while those who applied for different positions are earnestly waiting for shortlistments and subsequent calls for interview, the manipulators of destinies are already fixing their wives, children and relatives in different positions in the universities!
“Undiluted information at the disposal of Delta APC is that slots have been given to those in the State Executive Council, top Management of the Universities and members of the State House of Assembly. As for the House of Assembly, the number of slots given to each of them is based on the closeness of any of the members to the Speaker of the House, and the ability of that Member to play along with whatever the Government does, whether good or bad,” the party added.
According to the statement, “there is a common saying that “if you want to kill any Nation, kill her educational system”.
Delta APC expressed worry because there is no merit, describing the employment exercise as a “distasteful and ungodly scheme against Deltans.

“All they are set out to do is nothing but elevation of nepotism, favouritism and political might, to the detriment of qualified Deltans. This economic and social coup d’etat should be kicked against by Deltans,” the party said..
APC called on the Governor of Delta State to “immediately halt this shenanigans that is currently going on in these Schools and Goverment circle,” stating that “the might of Deltans should not be put to test.”
The party called on Deltans to stand up for their rights, saying that they should “not allow elected few to toy or kill their dreams of a better Delta State.”
