Is the Nigerian Nollywood Industry Creating Poverty?

The public display of humanitarian services to some Nollywood actresses and actors shows that the industry is creating more poverty than successful people.

Yes, I support public humanitarian services but at present, it shows that many Nollywood actresses and actors are living in penury. Giving cars and cash gifts to the public by some individuals does not tell well of the industry.

The Nollywood industry is a platform that can take anybody to an enviable height if the actor or actress understands publicity very well. It creates social awareness for them.

No doubt, many movie producers are struggling to pay actors and actresses due to a lack of funds to support the industry.

If you are an actor or actress, you can develop yourself with skills and become a global celebrity in the movie industry.

Some actors and actresses used their popularity to create friends and wealth for themselves. If you wait for movie producers’ money, you go nowhere in the industry.

I’m a lover of Nigerian movies; I spent quality time watching some of my favorite actors and actresses.

Going to places of worship to beg for alms shows the industry is only producing fake millionaires on screen. Abroad, actors and actresses are wealthy and comfortable.

This attitude of begging alms publicly can discourage many young people from studying Theatre Arts in the university.

Our movie industry market is very poor at present since we have moved from analog CDs to digital, it requires producers to think creatively.

In this same industry, some smart actresses and actors are making waves.TV awareness can create wealth for you if an individual can see beyond acting a script.

The Nollywood industry is suffering seriously. A Nollywood veteran actor once alleged that he was paid only 5k to act in a movie.

No industry is not passing through challenges; the journalism profession is the worse. The givers of this money and cars can give these actresses and actors without public awareness or display. If we have a government that appreciates talent, this issue of actors and actresses running to churches for help won’t be seen.

Lastly, the Nollywood industry needs total overhaul with other creative industries in Nigeria. The journalism profession is not left out.
