Isoko Traditional Rulers Carpet Okowa Over Bad Roads

The Isoko South Traditional Rulers Council this week Tuesday carpeted Governor Okowa over the state of the Isoko section of the Ughelli-Asaba highway and the Yanga Junction-Irri Road which the Governor had promised to give speedy attention when he met with them about a forthnight ago at Asaba.

According to the Traditional Rulers who were responding to the appeal for support by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Cultural/Traditional Contact Committee who visited them at their secretariat in Oleh, the Chairman of the Isoko South Traditional Rulers Council, the Odio-Ologbo of Oleh, HRM William Ovrawha Omogha I, the Governor had assured that the Isoko section of the Ughelli-Asaba dualization that has been abandoned was going to receive urgent attention.

To make matters worse, the very bad portions in Owhe, Emevor, Ozoro, Oleh-round-about have remained death traps and nightmares to road users especially during this yuletide season when the volume of traffic is heavy.

In addition, the royal fathers bemoaned the inability of the Governor to live to his promise on the abandoned but strategic Yanga Junction-Irri Road which is also in very bad shape worsened by the recent flood that rendered the road almost impassible.

Another vexing issue raised by the Traditional Rulers was the nonchalant attitude of several elected or appointed Isoko sons in government who have continued to ignore the developmental challenges of the Isoko people whom they represent.

Similarly, the Traditional Council also frowned at the conduct of the Isoko South Council Chairman, Hon. Victor Asasa who is hardly on seat to take charge of affairs of the Local Government Area.

They observed that “since the existence of the Council, no Chairman has displayed such lacklustre attitude to duty” as being exhibited by the current chairman.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the PDP delegation, High Chief Iduh Amadhe appealed to the Royal fathers to support the PDP candidates in the coming election as the party is not just the dominant party in the state and region, but also primed to take over government at the federal level since the ruling APC has wreaked so much havoc in all the sectors of the Nation.

Chief Iduh Amadhe who was accompanied on the visit by Chiefs Patrick Egbuwoku, Awheme Emonena and Mike Usige explained that Royal fathers, “as custodian of our tradition and culture are in a vantage position with far reaching impact at the grass root and so cannot be ignored or taken for granted”.

Over ten Traditional Rulers attended the meeting including those of Oleh, Emede, Enhwe, Erohwa, Igbide, Uzere, Irri, Okpolo-Enhwe, Umeh, Olomoro and Aviara.
