Activist Slams Gov. Okowa, DTHA Over N120Bn Loan

A Deltan and Civil Rights Activist, Comr.(Amb) Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, has slammed Governor Ifeanyi A. Okowa over the recent loan which has become the fastest ever loan to be approved in the history of legislature in Nigeria by the law makers.

The rights Activist said to journalists on Sunday that Governor Okowa sent a letter to the Delta State House of Assembly, seeking approval to borrow N20 billion from Fidelity Bank and N100 billion from Premier Trust Bank and consent was granted within 28 minutes of proceedings without any debate on what the loan is to be used for, projects to be implemented or programs listed for financing.

He said there was also no public engagement or information on a loan procured to the Delta public.

Comr. Agberen added that the Delta State Governor Okowa who is currently the PDP Vice Presidential candidate has just three (3) months to the expiration of his tenure in office.

He lamented the poor state of Delta state, both in industrialization and unemployment as well as insecurity which has led to various crimes among young people.

According to him, the Delta State Governor has failed to provide evidence and details to what the money is needed for and how he is going to pay back such loan so as not to subject successive government into accumulated debts.

He said that it is high time we started interrogating some of this processes as it is out of place for a seating Governor to preside over illegalities.

Comr. Agberen also lambasted the Delta State Assembly for presiding over illegalities without requesting a time frame when the loan would be paid back. The Activist reminded the Assembly of their responsibility; that it is their duty to make laws for good governance of the people of Delta State, saying that the recent loan approval by the Delta state assembly doesn’t mean well for the people but to subject Deltans to absolute poverty.

Comr. Agberen further stated that Okowa should not trade his ambition of becoming the Vice President of Nigeria to the detriment of the future of Deltans.
