LASU Begins Mentoring Newly-licensed Varsity, Vision University

As Officials Of New Institution Visit Management

Lagos State University has commenced a mentor-mentee relationship with a National Universities Commission newly-licenced University, Vision University, Ikogbo, Ogun State, in accordance to NUC’s new policy on mentoring of new universities by older ones.

The relationship formally kicked-off on Monday, 26th June 2023 with the visit of the top echelons of the faith-based University to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, and other members of the University Management.

The delegation, led by the Project Implementation Committee Chairman, Prof. Olusegun Awolusi and the Proprietress of the University, Dr. Ngozi Okafor, met members of the management and other senior officials of the university at the Vice Chancellor’s Office with identified areas of needs for LASU’s supervision and mentorship to help the new university take-off on the right note.

In her response, LASU VC, Prof. Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, expressed the willingness of the foremost state university in Nigeria, to mentor the Ogun State-based private varsity to maturity such that they can also compete favourably with other institutions in Nigeria. She maintained that at 40 years, LASU has come of age and is equipped to mentor the nascent institution. She went on to constitute a Technical Advisory Committee headed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Adenike Boyo, to provide support for the university.

Proprietress of Vision University, Dr. Okafor, was full of appreciation to the Vice Chancellor for the warm welcome and the anticipated cordial relationship that, according to the NUC guidelines, is expected to last for five years.
