Leaders of Olero Oil Field host communities in Warri North Local Governennt Area of Delta State have called for stoppage of oil bunkering in the communities.

The call was made when Dr. Jeffrey Wilkie, a leader from Tebu Community, led an advocacy team to Obaghoro, Ebrohimi,Tebu, Gbokoda, Ajamita, Udo and Jakpa communities in the locality.

Taking turns to address a cross section of members of the communities who were mostly casual workers with Chevron PLC, Dr. Wilkie, Mr. Billy Email, Mr. Tongbe Appearance and Mr. Elvis Jemiregbe reminded them that their primary duty was to secure and protect oil facilities from bunkering and vandalisation in the communities.

They added that oil bunkering had adversely affected the people living in the communities.

“We must all stand against such criminal act because of the negative effects it has on the health of our people and the economy,” the stated.

Some of the workers, including Mr.Oritse- eje Oporokun, Mr Taye Olakowe and Mr Austin Dorsu expressed happiness over the advocacy of the community leaders against oil bunkering, promising to discharge their duties more effectively.

They, however, pleaded with the leaders to inform the management of Chevron to look into the possibility of an increment of salary and enhancement of their welfare to boost their morale and performance.

Elders of the communities also threw their weight behind the campaign as the Olare-aja of Obaghoro Community, Pa. Monday Alaigba, and the Elders Council of Tebu Community, through the Secretary, Pa. William Omamogho, assured the leaders that the communities would not accommodate nor aid oil bunkers.
